In 2001, Congress enacted the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (the EEOICPA) to compensate nuclear weapons workers and their families (including employees, former employees, contractors and subcontractors) for the cancer and other illnesses they contracted as a result of working at these facilities.
